Modernizes the 2021 GitHub App into a small Node 24 webhook service, hardens PR visualization, and reuses the existing stately-github registration for managed documentation forwarding. The /api/webhook URL stays the same. No live installation settings, secrets, permissions, forwarding URL or production activation are changed.
Remove Next 12, React 17, Probot 11, the middleware patch, demo parser, old image/editor preview URLs and obsolete starter tooling. Use current Octokit auth/REST, pnpm, strict ESM TypeScript and Node's test runner.
Verify SHA-256 over exact, bounded request bytes before UTF-8/JSON parsing. Add event schemas, a ten-second body deadline, four-request process capacity, failure-safe diagnostics, bounded replay caching and redirect restrictions.
Mint PR tokens explicitly for one repository, with only contents read and pull request write. Read immutable head sources and recheck the current open PR before posting. Never delete or rewrite existing discussions.
Render static Mermaid previews inside GitHub. Context and implementation code do not enter comments or external renderer URLs. AST extraction runs without credentials or inherited CLI flags, under time/heap/stack/source-size limits. It parses source; it never executes repository code.
Preserve compact, signed default-branch push and installation-revocation forwarding. Registry still owns consent, pairing, durable queues, allowance enforcement, source reads and separate documentation drafts. This host has no Stately project key or model-write path.
Add CodeQL, weekly Dependabot updates, pinned GitHub Actions, frozen installs and an audit CI gate. Dependency scripts stay disabled except esbuild's binary installer. New-registration defaults drop unused issue-write permission and review-comment subscriptions; live registration cleanup is an operational step.
Validation
23 tests pass, including real signed HTTP ingress, tampering/UTF-8/chunked-size/slow-body/capacity/abort/replay rejection, compact forwarding and real SDK token-scope requests.
Packaged Vercel function tested from an isolated artifact directory without node_modules: signed PR delivery, token mint, paginated reads, parser worker and inline review generation. Body helpers are explicitly disabled in the Build Output API metadata.
Typecheck, production bundles, frozen install, actionlint and dependency audit pass. Current registry audit reports zero advisories; initial lockfile audit contained 19 critical advisories. This is scanner evidence, not a guarantee of exploitability or complete security.
Normal, nested and hostile-label diagrams parsed and rendered in a local Chromium/Mermaid harness with external network blocked. No production webhook, real source-processing job or hosted GitHub rendering smoke was performed.
README, contributor instructions and security boundaries updated. No app-specific Stately project is linked in this repository; hosted inventory reconciliation remains pending.
Deploy/migrate/enable Registry, configure its existing-app credentials/shared webhook secret and enforced AI allowance, and configure its cron.
Check the app host's existing secret meets the new 32-byte minimum; coordinate any rotation across GitHub, this host and Registry. PEM, escaped-newline PEM and base64 PEM remain accepted. Probot registration/Smee/PRIVATE_KEY_PATH are removed.
Deploy the API-only Node 24 artifact, verify the unchanged webhook path, enable the forwarding URL, and subscribe the existing app to push. Remove unused live issue-write permission and review-comment subscription separately. Installation lifecycle/access events are automatic.
Enable the editor's feature gate; install on selected repositories, consent/pair in Stately and commit the one-time challenge. End users add no Stately CI secrets.
Limits remain explicit: Vercel ingress is 4.5 MB even though the standalone application allows 25 MiB; compacting cannot fix an upstream rejection. Work is synchronously acknowledged and failures need redelivery; there is no durable ingress queue. Parser threads are not OS sandboxes. Static previews omit root-level/dynamic transitions and runtime semantics. Cross-instance review publication can still race. See README and SECURITY.md for boundaries and operations.

Walkthrough
The app now validates GitHub webhook requests and forwards selected events to a configured documentation webhook. The repository also updates its Node.js and Yarn setup, project scripts, and CI workflow.
Changes: Documentation Event Forwarding
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Webhook endpoint and request validation lib/webhook.ts, pages/api/webhook.ts, patches/@octokit+webhooks+7.21.0.patch, test/webhook.test.ts
The API route uses a custom handler that checks the request path, method, headers, body, signature, and JSON payload before dispatching events. Tests cover validation failures and wrong-path requests.
Event selection and signed delivery app.yml, lib/app.ts, lib/documentation.ts, test/documentation.test.ts, test/index.test.ts, test/webhook.test.ts
The app forwards qualifying push and installation or repository access events as signed JSON requests. Tests cover forwarding, filtering, and rejection cases.
Forwarding setup and deployment .env.example, README.md
The example environment file and README describe the forwarding URL, shared secret, event flow, and managed and self-hosted setup.
Runtime and CI Configuration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Node.js 22 development and CI package.json, jest.config.js, tsconfig.json, .github/workflows/test.yml, .gitignore, README.md
The project uses Node.js 22 and Yarn, updates build and typecheck commands, and adds a workflow that runs tests, typechecking, and a local build.

Review comments at @lib/app.ts:
- Around line 8-9: Update the app.on push-event handling so
forwardDocumentationEvent receives only pushes whose payload.ref matches the
repository’s default branch and whose ref is not deleted. Preserve forwarding
for installation.deleted, installation.suspend, and
installation_repositories.removed events; if Registry queues documentation work,
apply the same push filter before queueing.
Review comments at @lib/documentation.ts:
- Around line 16-17: Update the payload serialization and size check so
supported GitHub push events are not rejected solely for exceeding 1,000,000
bytes; forward a bounded, signed payload containing the fields Registry needs,
or align the forwarding limit with Registry’s ingestion contract. Preserve
signature verification and establish that the chosen size limit is accepted by
both systems.
Review comments at @pages/api/webhook.ts:
- Line 6: Update the webhook request handling associated with the `config`
export to enforce a byte limit on the raw body before it reaches Probot,
rejecting oversized requests before signature verification. Bound the bytes
actually read rather than relying only on `Content-Length`, and preserve the raw
body for signature verification.
- Line 10: Configure createProbot with webhookPath set to /api/webhook through
its overrides, then remove the ignored webhooksPath option from
createNodeMiddleware while retaining its probot option.

You are seeing this message because GitHub Code Scanning has recently been set up for this repository, or this pull request contains the workflow file for the Code Scanning tool.
What Enabling Code Scanning Means:
The 'Security' tab will display more code scanning analysis results (e.g., for the default branch).
Depending on your configuration and choice of analysis tool, future pull requests will be annotated with code scanning analysis results.
You will be able to see the analysis results for the pull request's branch on this overview once the scans have completed and the checks have passed.
For more information about GitHub Code Scanning, check out the documentation.
Please review current head 8b41c2c, especially exact-byte webhook authentication, bounded ingress/parsing, explicit single-repository token minting, comment privacy/idempotency and the API-only deployment artifact. The automatic review was rate limited; CI, CodeQL and Socket have completed successfully.
Note: CodeRabbit is an incremental review system and does not re-review already reviewed commits. This command is applicable only when automatic reviews are paused.
