We've got lots of people who ask about dming for topics that they could well discuss in the server. I presume this is an anxiety thing, feeling "in public" talking in the channels and preferring a private space.
Maybe we can lean into this by having folks sign up to be matched with someone, and having a bit put them each into a private thread with each other. That way we can cut some of the "hello plz dm me" spam and also have more conversations happen
Hi there, Vcarl, I love the idea and would be more than happy to implement it. Just to ensure we are on the same page, a few things I would like to ask:
How would we pair users with others- would it be based on star helpers, or have all users add a special role so that those who would allow others to DM them can help?
In a scenario where the user is not being polite or causing trouble to the helper in DM, how would we go about handling this- would we keep track in memory via a database or something else?
Would this roulette just be a random generator selecting any volunteer helper, or would it be based on a schedule? Suppose a helper who volunteers to help others via DM, but are not available to DM at the moment, how would we handle this- after x seconds we select a new candidate or something else?
Would we have a command for this to inform the user if they prefer a DM to go to the x channel and follow the instructions? Or will there be some bot detection based on some keywords? However, at present, there are already feature bots tracking these keywords like DM.
