Sidebar Devices section is not accessible via keys #1921

Closed as not planned
Closed as not planned

Description

@64kramsystem
 * Nemo version (nemo --version): 3.8.5
 * Is issue with desktop or windowed nemo?: (not relevant)
 * Distribution - (Mint 17.2, Arch, Fedora 25, etc...): Mint 19
 * Graphics hardware *and* driver used: (not relevant)
 * 32 or 64 bit: 64 bit

Issue

When navigating the sidebar with the keys, the Devices section can't be reached.

Steps to reproduce

Focus on the sidebar, then repeatedly tap the arrow down (or keep it tapped). The cursor will stop before Devices, in my case, on Trash.

Expected behaviour

Devices should be able to be selected, as it's possible to do this in all the Gnome file manager forks.

    Confirming issue present in Nemo 4.6.4:

    • Plug some USB device, it appears in the sidebar in Devices category;
    • Press F6 to set focus to the sidebar;
    • Press down arrow key let's you navigate to the end of the entries under My Computer category but no on to the other categories (Devices and Network).

    @ShiromiTsukasa

    Still an issue on nemo 6.6.3.
    That said, you can workaround it by first pressing F9 twice to get rid of the sidebar cursor, then hit F6 to go to the sidebar panel, and then press either right or left arrow to highlight the first dropdown root, which should be My Computer, then hit space to collapse it, then you can actually go the devices tab.

    @cohnt

    The above trick doesn't work for me on 6.0.2, but my current workaround is to use typeahead in the sidebar, which does work. But it's really frustrating that the arrow keys let you navigate within a section (e.g. "My Computer" or "Bookmarks"), but when you get to the bottom, it doesn't just jump to the next section below it.
