Shake calibration doesn't work when sleep mode is enabled #1379
Ok, I believe this is simply sleep mode in action since the other wake up options don't work either. I read sleep mode was added but the release notes don't actually say what it does/how it works.
If that is indeed the case, please close ticket.
Would like to add that the watch started with that mode enabled and I thought it would just suppress notifications so I left it on for the day.

It makes sense, since the sleep mode disables the motion sensor polling.
Now, does it make sense to configure a wakeup option when wakeup features are disabled? Maybe...
There are multiple ways to fix this :
Display a message to notify the user that they must disable sleep mode to configure the wake up feature
Re-enable the motion sensor polling when the app is running
Never disable the motion sensor polling, but ignore the data when sleep mode is enabled (with the disadvantage that the watch will use more power in sleep mode).
Personally, notifying the user would suffice for me. I like the option that there exists a mode where the watch doesn't wake up by raising my wrist, when I am in bed.
The "problem" for me was that I wasn't aware that this was what sleep mode was doing.

And you are correct! The watch is not supposed to wake up by anything but the button during sleep mode.
It should not do that. Expected behavior is starting with notifications on (green).
The second (red) mode does that for you as well.
Sleep mode also deactivates chimes.

In that case the only real "issue" is that the shake calibration doesn't work when sleep mode is enabled.

I tried and can confirm this issue.

I came looking here because of the same issue but didn't realize my watch was in sleep mode. Going out of sleep mode solved the problem for me.

As @InFerYes said the issue is
Maybe we can change the title of this issue to that to avoid confusion.
