You get the path of the active panel - and actions such as search, icon/list view are also applied to only the active panel. |

Another solution would be to split the panel horizontally rather than vertically. It would then be easy to display the path above the two panels. And this would make more sense now that we can use tabs within each panel. |

I support this idea. I'll be short. When I do a split screen in Nemo I'm lost which one is which, when I'm working with almost identical named files but on different paths, so I have to manually click and focus to the other view to see it's path. If the path would've been visible in the first place, that would save me from this struggle and give this nice QoL UX feeling. As always I'm bringing an example from KDE Plasma's Dolphin, here you can see the idea, that it works, and it can be implemented if it's done right (image is not mine, took it's from https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1ow41t9/dolphin_kde_default_file_manager_has_got_the/ ) |

I'm in favor of the current practice. It's very easy to check the path indicator, even when in the second pane. A second path indicator would just clutter up the toolbar. The subtle shading of the inactive panel is also very helpful. Sometimes these old eyes find it a bit too subtle, and yet I wouldn't want it any darker, because that would interfere with comparing the two panels. I also like being able to switch between the panels with F6. That is very handy. |

I'm pretty sure this was once a feature in nemo also, that we removed - unless you're running nemo maximized or have a lot of screen real-estate, it ends up too crowded. It's not something we'll be bringing back. |

When one use Nemo with two panels, the path of the two folders are only above the first panel. Users are lost, they never know in which path they are in each panel and one must always click and activate a panel to see the corresponding path.
Even I understand that it's difficult to find the place where to do it, could you show the path above each panel when 2 panels are used ?
Activation of panel would not be necessary anymore too.
In MATE, the path is above the 2 panels, it's great :
